A sincere thank you to the Leader of the Official A sincere thank you to the Leader of the Official Opposition, MPP Marit Stiles and MPP France Gélinas for taking the time to meet with Asthma Canada, Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee Member, Susan Balkovec and patient advocate Josh Rheaume to discuss the issues affecting people living with asthma. We had a productive conversation about practical solutions, including the critical role of Certified Respiratory Educators (CREs) in primary care and through Asthma Canada’s Asthma & Allergy HelpLine. We look forward to continuing these discussions with Members of Provincial Parliament later today at our World Asthma Day Reception. Rachel Anne Normand and her family live in Ottawa. Rachel Anne Normand and her family live in Ottawa. Without ever having prior knowledge of asthma, her son Jacob experienced a severe asthma attack one night that led to a hospital visit and an asthma diagnosis. “That night, Jacob was diagnosed with asthma. That was how we found out, through a full-blown asthma attack rather than gradual symptoms or routine testing. We spent the night in the hospital and were discharged the next morning with an Asthma Action Plan and medications.” Rachel and Jacob’s story is a reminder that asthma attacks aren’t always predictable and can get worse quickly. Recognizing the signs of an asthma attack and responding quickly could save a life. Read their full story: https://asthma.ca/jacob-normands-asthma-story/ #CAREforAsthma #AsthmaAwarenessMonth
