Did you know that improper disposal (flushing, pou Did you know that improper disposal (flushing, pouring down the drain or throwing in the trash) of medications and other health products including inhalers, has potential harmful effects on the environment? Flushing drugs down the toilet or throwing them in the garbage has led to traces of pharmaceuticals in soil and water. Currently levels are very low, but as the use of drugs increase and build over time, it can have detrimental effects to our environment. 

Leaving expired and unused prescription medications lying in medicine cabinets and cupboards can also lead to their potential misuse and abuse. 

So what can we do with our old puffers? Bring unused and expired prescription drugs like inhalers, over-the-counter medications and natural health products to your local pharmacist for proper disposal. They are usually more than happy to facilitate their proper disposal free of charge. 

In addition, some municipalities and local police forces offer take-back programs. These programs provide safe and easy ways to dispose of unused and expired drugs and health products we have in our homes.
