This Asthma Awareness Month; a reminder of the rea This Asthma Awareness Month; a reminder of the reality of asthma in Canada. More than 4.8 million people are living with asthma in Canada, and that number continues to rise. Each week, six families across the country lose a loved one to asthma. Asthma attacks are not always predictable and can worsen quickly. Recognizing the signs of an asthma attack and responding quickly could save a life! This May, we are calling on people to #CAREforAsthma. Learn more: https://asthma.ca/asthma-awareness-month-2026/
Today, Asthma Canada are proud to officially launc Today, Asthma Canada are proud to officially launch Asthma Awareness Month 2026. This year, our core message is simple: recognizing the signs of an asthma attack and responding quickly could save a life. Signs of an asthma attack include: wheezing, distressed breathing, persistent coughing, difficulty speaking, chest tightness and lips or fingernails turning blue or grey. If an asthma attack happens, remember C.A.R.E.: C – Calm: Keep them calm and reassure them
A – Air: Sit them upright and encourage slow breathing
R – Rescue Inhaler: Help them find and use their rescue inhaler (usually blue).
E – Emergency: Call 911 if there is no inhaler or no improvement after using the inhaler Learn more at: asthma.ca/care

Tomorrow, May 1, Asthma Awareness Month officially Tomorrow, May 1, Asthma Awareness Month officially begins, and we wanted to take a moment to share Josh Rheume’s video from last year’s campaign. His story is a testament to this work and shows what’s possible when you take that step and take control of your asthma. While our 2026 theme focuses on asthma attacks, how to recognize them and what to do when they happen, it also reinforces an important truth: keeping your asthma under control is key to helping prevent them. #CAREforAsthma #AsthmaAwarenessMonth
With just days to go until Asthma Awareness Month With just days to go until Asthma Awareness Month 2026, we’re taking a moment to reflect on last year’s inaugural campaign in Canada. As part of that campaign, we shared the powerful story of Amber Marie McCollom, who tragically lost her life to a severe asthma attack at just 14 years old. Amber’s story helped shine a light on the reality of asthma and how serious and life-threatening it can be. We are deeply grateful to her mother, Kimberly, for her courage in sharing Amber’s story and for being part of the Asthma Canada community. #CAREforAsthma #AsthmaAwarenessMonth #asthma #worldAsthmaDay
