Rachel Anne Normand and her family live in Ottawa. Rachel Anne Normand and her family live in Ottawa. Without ever having prior knowledge of asthma, her son Jacob experienced a severe asthma attack one night that led to a hospital visit and an asthma diagnosis. “That night, Jacob was diagnosed with asthma. That was how we found out, through a full-blown asthma attack rather than gradual symptoms or routine testing. We spent the night in the hospital and were discharged the next morning with an Asthma Action Plan and medications.” Rachel and Jacob’s story is a reminder that asthma attacks aren’t always predictable and can get worse quickly. Recognizing the signs of an asthma attack and responding quickly could save a life. Read their full story: https://asthma.ca/jacob-normands-asthma-story/ #CAREforAsthma #AsthmaAwarenessMonth

Today, Asthma Canada are proud to officially launc Today, Asthma Canada are proud to officially launch Asthma Awareness Month 2026. This year, our core message is simple: recognizing the signs of an asthma attack and responding quickly could save a life. Signs of an asthma attack include: wheezing, distressed breathing, persistent coughing, difficulty speaking, chest tightness and lips or fingernails turning blue or grey. If an asthma attack happens, remember C.A.R.E.: C – Calm: Keep them calm and reassure them
A – Air: Sit them upright and encourage slow breathing
R – Rescue Inhaler: Help them find and use their rescue inhaler (usually blue).
E – Emergency: Call 911 if there is no inhaler or no improvement after using the inhaler Learn more at: asthma.ca/care

Tomorrow, May 1, Asthma Awareness Month officially Tomorrow, May 1, Asthma Awareness Month officially begins, and we wanted to take a moment to share Josh Rheume’s video from last year’s campaign. His story is a testament to this work and shows what’s possible when you take that step and take control of your asthma. While our 2026 theme focuses on asthma attacks, how to recognize them and what to do when they happen, it also reinforces an important truth: keeping your asthma under control is key to helping prevent them. #CAREforAsthma #AsthmaAwarenessMonth
