Asthma Awareness Month 2026 runs from May 1 to May 31, 2026.

2026 Theme: Asthma Attacks

Building on last year’s focus on asthma control, we are turning our attention to asthma attacks—how to recognize them and what to do when they happen. Throughout May, we will share practical information, resources, and updated guidance to help people identify the signs of an asthma attack and respond quickly and confidently.

May 1

We will launch Asthma Awareness Month by:

    • Revealing our new asthma emergency messaging: C.A.R.E.
    • Sharing our new video featuring Jacob, told by his mom Rachel, about how he survived an asthma attack at just three years old

May 5 – World Asthma Day

Release the findings from our 2026 Asthma Attack Survey

This national survey highlights key insights into how people experience asthma attacks in Canada.

Launch the first training session with our Asthma Canada Advocate community

This session, hosted by Josh Rheaume, marks the beginning of our Advocate training series, focused on helping Asthma Canada Advocates receive the training they need and learn how to use their stories in a meaningful and impactful way. Asthma Canada’s World Asthma Day Reception 2026

Join us in Toronto for an evening of connection, conversation, and learning with members of the asthma community and healthcare experts working to improve asthma care in Canada.

Our keynote speaker is Dr. Samir Gupta, Respirologist and Clinician Scientist at St. Michael’s Hospital and Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. We’ll also be joined by Asthma Canada President & CEO Jeffrey Beach and Patient Advocate Rachel Anne Normand. The event is free to attend and refreshments will be served.

Launch Asthma Canada’s first silent auction fundraiser

On World Asthma Day, we will launch an online silent auction featuring a range of items and experiences. All funds raised will support Asthma Canada’s work to improve asthma awareness, education, and care. Keep an eye out for more information.

Landmarks across the country will be illuminated in blue to raise awareness of asthma, asthma attacks and show support for the millions of people living with the condition.

French Asthma Webinar (Comprendre l’asthme : prévenir les crises d’asthme)

Join our French-language webinar focused on understanding asthma and preventing asthma attacks, with a focus on the basics of asthma management. This session will help participants better understand how asthma works, recognize worsening symptoms, and learn how day-to-day management can help reduce the risk of asthma attacks.

Asthma Canada will be joined by Dr. Andréanne Côté, who will speak about asthma management and the prevention of asthma attacks. We will also hear from Asthma Canada patient partner Rachel Anne Normand of Ottawa, who will share her story about how an asthma attack led to her son Jacob’s diagnosis.

BC Lung – Asthma Education Camps for Kids

BC Lung Foundation’s Asthma Education Camp offers a fun and supportive learning experience for children aged 8–10 with asthma. Led by certified asthma educators, the program helps children better understand their condition, recognize symptoms, manage triggers, and know what to do during an asthma attack. It also builds confidence through interactive activities in a supportive group setting.

July Camp: July 27–30, 2026 (1:00–4:30 PM)
August Camp: August 17–20, 2026 (1:00–4:30 PM)

Lung Saskatchewan – Inspired Breathing Webinar

Lung Saskatchewan’s Inspired Breathing Webinar features Dr. Shawn Aaron and focuses on improving asthma care in Canada.

The session explores key topics including asthma diagnosis, achieving better asthma control, and new and emerging treatment options. It is designed for healthcare professionals and advocates working to improve outcomes for people living with asthma.
